This forum is for the Cabinet members of the President to
share their opinions and suggestions.
The below is adapted from President F.D.R.'s Second Fireside Chat.
President F.D. Roosevelt:
March,1933
As you know, I came into office as the President of the United States of America with a country that is in a dire economic situation. We, as the government need to get involved in order to improve this and bring America back to its former glory.
The main issues that we are facing are as follows:
Trade and commerce declined to dangerously low levels; prices for basic commodities are such as to destroy the value of the assets of national institutions such as banks, savings banks, insurance companies, and others. These institutions, because of their great needs, are foreclosing mortgages, calling loans, refusing credit. Thus there is actually in process of destruction the property of millions of people who had borrowed money on that property in terms of dollars which had had an entirely different value from the current level.
At this point, we are faced with an economic condition which calls for action.
I refer to the proposal that I put forth to improve the nation and the individuals within as "The New Deal".

Please submit your agreement or disagreement to the particulars of this
New Deal, and back your answer with substantial economic and political
reasoning. Explain why you think this New Deal would help America's financial
situation, or propose your own idea which you think would be more beneficial to
the country.
